Dougherty was a national disgrace. Public opinion turned on him, and turned on him hard. No one liked him. No one respected him. Just as he had attacked his fans, his fans attacked him. In the online arena, he was merciless ridiculed. Even when you look today, there is an endless supply of memes about him. For a period of time in Australia he genuinely was the brunt of every joke, with his name even becoming a phrase for making a mistake – ‘doing a Calvin.’
